Overview
Digital Travel Credentials, as defined by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), are a secure and digital representation of a traveler's identity, serving as an alternative or complement to traditional physical travel documents. The concept was developed to enhance security, streamline border control processes, and facilitate smoother international travel.
The DTC may be implemented in three types:
-
Type 1: the DTC-VC is derived directly from the travel document chip. It is the exact copy of the data stored on the chip. Since this DTC-VC can be generated by anyone, the physical travel document is still required while traveling that acts a DTC-PC.
-
Type 2: the DTC-VC is also derived directly from the travel document chip, but it can only be created by the authority that issued the travel document. The DTC-VC is created on a physical device, such as a smartphone, that acts as a DTC-PC. This provides flexibility, as the traveler can use the physical device as a fallback if the physical travel document is unavailable.
-
Type 3: this type is fully digital, meaning that the traveler does not need to carry a physical travel document. The DTC-VC is created by the issuing authority on a physical device, such as a smartphone, that acts as a DTC-PC. There is no physical travel document available as a fallback.

Usage
With the help of Regula Document Reader SDK, you can either generate a DTC-VC, or if you already have a DTC-VC / DTC-PC, pass it and proceed with the verification process.
